Kids and Media: This is us!

Our vision

Kids and Media is a non-profit, charitable organisation which gives information and advice about children’s use of digital media. Our vision is to see children and teenagers using media with safety and awareness.

Target group

Our main target group is parents. We wish to help parents to guide and guard their children in a digital world, different from the media world they themselves experienced as children. Kids and Media seek to support, equip and empower parents and professionals who work with children and teenagers.

Our foundation

Our work is rooted in the UN´s Convention on the Rights of the Child, which underlines children’s rights to use media, at the same time as they have a right to protection from harmful content. The information and advice our organisation gives is politically and religiously neutral.

Kids and Media Norway

The organisation was founded in Norway year 2000. Kids and Media Norway has a network of speakers all over the country who offer courses for parents, schools and professionals. The board of editors for www.kidsandmedia.co.uk is based in Norway and collaborates with organisations and institutions both in the UK and EU.

Method

Kids and Media works closely with charitable organisations, public institutions and commercial media. Every year Kids and Media reviews about 300 PC and console games and organises Europe’s largest non-commercial games convention in Norway. We publish about 100 games and movie reviews yearly. The best products are awarded with our stamp of recommendation.

The organisation

The organisation has its own board and professional advisory council consisting of people who represent varied proficiency when it comes to school, children’s and youth work, digital media, psychology and family counselling. Kids and Media is based on voluntary work and is mainly financed through economical gifts from parents.

The organisation is lead by Director Oystein Samnoen.

Corporate Social Responsibility
