Facebook has released a free handbook – A Guide to Facebook Security – aiming to educate parents, teachers, and young adults on how to keep their Facebook accounts safe.

The 20-page guide was written by former Symantec Internet safety expert Linda McCarthy, Purdue University security researcher Keith Watson, and teacher/editor Denise Weldon-Siviy.

The guide explains how you can:

  • Protect your Facebook account
  • Avoid the scammers
  • Use advanced security settings
  • Recover a hacked Facebook account
  • Stop imposters

Answers frequently asked questions
According to Facebook, the guide answers several questions parents, educators, and teens may have about making Facebook more secure, such as:

1. What can you do to protect your Facebook account when accessing it in public?
2. What should you do if someone hijacks your Facebook account?
3. How you can use Facebook’s advanced security settings to protect yourself?
4. How can you help in keeping you and your friends safe and secure while online?

As well as this, the guide explains how to protect your account, avoid scammers and configure advanced security settings. You also learn how to set up one-time passwords, secure browsing and track your account activity. The authors even explain why scammers and thieves want your account. Even for advanced Facebook users, this provides very interesting reading.
