Motorstorm: Arctic Edge
27.01.2010
This is a fast-paced and challenging racing game that is suitable for children from twelve years of age.
Motorstorm was one of the first games released for Playstation 3, and it was well received by players worldwide. In that game you were able to compete in spectacular vehicles through a wild and fantastic landscape. You could compete in exciting races with trucks, motorcycles, buggies and four wheelers in the desert Monument Valley. Now the versions for PSP and PS2 are ready, and here the producers have chosen to move away from the desert and mountain areas for a landscape of snow and ice.
”Motorstorm: Arctic Edge” has the same theme as previous editions: winning races. Every time you complete a race new courses and challenges open. If you become one of the top-three you receive a medal, which gives you points. These points help you climb the hierarchy. Throughout the game you can unlock vehicles and a variety of equipment. As well as this, the game gives you over a hundred courses to race on, so there are enough challenges. What might be a little frustrating is the physics motor in the game. Every single time you crash or drive off the road this is repeated in slow motion. This gets a little tiring at length, but luckily it’s possible to skip ahead after a few seconds. The controls work fine, and it’s easy to steer all the vehicles. You get a simple presentation of how the buttons work. Graphics-wise this game is quite strong and presents many spectacular and detailed landscapes. The music is also impressive, and contains songs from famous bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Prodigy.Child suitability:
“Motorstorm: Arctic Edge” has a twelve year age limit and is PEGI-marked with violence. This is because it contains large and graphic collisions. When you for example drive a motorcycle you can clearly see that your driver is thrown off in slow motion, and it might seem like he gets seriously hurt. But this isn’t serious violence where you hurt others, which means the game can be played by children from twelve years of age.
Score: 4
Suggested age: Suitable for children from 12 years.
Format: PSP (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation 2
PEGI: 12, violence
